Educate...Don't Amputate!

Many people seem to think that declawing a cat is nothing more than a cosmetic procedure. This couldn't be more wrong!!

The procedure involves removing the first joint of each digit. It's the equivalent of amputating the human fingers at the first knuckle.

Imagine how much your life would be altered if you were suddenly without the first quarter of each finger. You would have to relearn how to do so many things! Things that you take for granted, like writing or holding a cup, would suddenly become arduous tasks. Your nerve endings would be altered so your sense of touch wouldn't be the same either.

This type of thing is what you would be subjecting your cat to if you were to have him/her declawed. Do you really want your cat to have to learn how to walk again? Is that a fair thing to do to your cat because you don't want your furniture to be scratched?

Please stop and think before you disfigure your cat and alter the natural state of its body. Cats are born with claws for a reason. They use their claws for many things.

I have shared my life with many cats since I was a child. During this time, I've discovered that they use their claws for a wide variety of things.
Here are just a few of those:
Declawing often leads to behavior and health problems as well.

There are many sites that are dedicated to educating people about the horrors and hazards of declawing. I have included a few here to aid you in your research.

At Lisa Violet's Cat House you will find everything you need to make an informed decision regarding the declawing procedure. She offers a detailed explanation of the procedure as well as tips for training your cat not to scratch inappropriately. This site has the most extensive information about the subject that I have ever seen!

She also has a message forum (link included here as well) where you can go to get answers to all of your questions about declawing. I visit the anti-declaw forum every day as do many others (including lisa violet). We are all dedicated to helping people solve cat behavior issues without resorting to mutilating the cat.
